When Walt Disney built Disneyland, he said, “It’s something that will never be finished. Something that I can keep developing…and adding to.” He wanted to continue this idea when Walt
Disney World was being built. After his death, His brother Roy continued with this idea and after Roy retired, the leadership of Walt Disney World continued with this concept.
The Disney Company today is continuing with this theory; all of the theme parks in Walt Disney World continue to grow. At this very moment, there is construction going on in the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and soon Star Tours in Disney Hollywood Studios will be closed for refurbishment. The Construction in Epcot is taking place in the World Showcase in two different countries and when done there will be two new restaurants in the park. In the Magic Kingdom they are adding new areas to Fantasyland and are working on some of the buildings on Main Street. All the while, the Parks are open and people are going from attraction to attraction and enjoying themselves in Disney World. The fact that the areas are open during construction is a tribute to the Walt Disney Company. Some places would close down for a short time period to get the work done and then have a grand reopening. Disney doesn’t do this. They keep every area of the park open and continue to serve the guests as they usually would. This idea of staying open and operating as normal isn’t just wonderful for the guests, but is also an Unknown Magic.
The reason for this being an Unknown Magic is because of the way Disney does the work or the way they hide the work from the Guests. Normally, in Walt Disney World when they are working, if they can, they shut down the area and work on it at night. This is how they change the plants and landscaping throughout the parks. But when they have large construction projects going on as they do now, they hide the work from the visitors the best they can.
