>As I am writing this, my son is doing math homework. It is really summer work that they give the honors classes to make sure they are prepared to start when they get back to school. With that thought, let me give you some numbers, see if you can figure out their significance.

A. 24,142
B. 1191

C. 25,333

D. 6578

E. 31,911

Now the Answers. A is the total number of Resort Rooms at Disney World. B is the number of campsites and cabins at Fort Wilderness. C is the Total Disney Owned Guest Accommodations. D is the Total number of Rooms in Official Hotels of Walt Disney World and E is the Total Number of Guest Accommodations on Walt Disney World Property.

Wow! That is an amazing number. With this many rooms, you would think that each would be the same; just another room. But they aren’t. For first time visitors and other Disney Visitors that don’t know this, this is today’s Unknown Magic, the Magic of Walt Disney Resort Hotels.

All of the Walt Disney Resorts have their own theme, from the colors of the carpets to the Cast Members’outfits; each detail of the resort is based on the theme. If you take the time to explore the Resort, you will find that all of the areas of the Resorts stay in theme. Everything from building names, to walk-ways to fountains, they are always perfectly fit into the theme of the Resort. The Imagineers that design the attractions and parks themselves help design the Resorts and their grounds, so you know that the same care that is given to details in the parks is given to the details of each Resort. The Lobby of each hotel is architecturally amazing. The colors, the woodwork and the layout of the lobbies are always beautiful.

When you first get to you resort, take time to sit in one of the sitting areas in your lobby. Take in the atmosphere of the Resort. Look around at the different pictures and plants and decorations. Remember every Disney themed area, both in the parks and out have a story. See if you can figure out the story that goes with your Resort. If you think you know, or even if you don’t, ask a cast member about it.

There is another great Magical Experience in the Lobby. Somewhere in each lobby, there is a television that plays vintage Disney Cartoons. It is amazing to see the kids staring at these black and white treasures, as they are very different from the SpongeBob type shows most kids are used to. It is also fun as an adult to watch the cartoons to see how your favorite Disney characters have changed over the years.

After spending some time checking out the lobby, you need to explore the rest of the Resort’s Main “House”. At the Polynesian Resort it is the Great Ceremonial House, at Saratoga Springs it is the Carriage House. Over at the Caribbean Beach Resort, it is Old Port Royale. At a lot of the other Resorts, the Main area is all around the Lobby. But they still have names to these areas. Every Resort has some of the same things, they may be close to the lobby, or you may have to search them out, but they are there for you to find. Some of the things that all of the resorts have in common are: gift shops, quick service eateries, sit down restaurants, pools, and game rooms or arcades. Most of them have a lounge and a pool bar. The gifts shop merchandise is unique to each resort. They do have a lot of the same items, but they will also sell merchandise for that Resort, that you can only get there.

Most of the quick service eateries serve the same food, throughout the day, with some changes here and there, and the hours at each eatery may be different, make sure you check when yours is open. The sit down restaurants vary greatly from Resort to Resort with some offering specialty dishes that go with the theme of the Resort and others going for a family atmosphere. Two that come to mind are Jiko – The Cooking Place (in the Animal Kingdom Lodge) which “fuses the bold flavors of traditional African, Indian and Mediterranean cuisine” and Whispering Canyon Café in the Wilderness Lodge which is a “rowdy, family-style restaurant”.

The Disney Resort Main pools are amazing they all stay with the theme of the Resort, which makes them fun. Each Resort has a themed main pool, and quiet pool areas. The main pool is always a really great place to go with the kids. They will love the slides and the play areas. What you may miss though are the quiet pools. They don’t have the slides that the main pools have, but they are always really nice areas. Most of the time there are less people there, especially later in the afternoon, or early in the morning. For a Magical Experience, make sure you take a swim in the quiet pool at least once during your stay after dark. You will basically have the pool to yourself, and it will be a family time that you may need after a busy day.

There are also other places throughout the Resorts that are fun and can create Magical Experiences, you may find a quiet pathway that goes all the way around the Resort, or maybe a spot on the beach where you can relax on a chair and see the Magic Kingdom. You may even find a special spot to sit and enjoy a cup of tea. There are many of these types of places all over the Resorts, so when you take a break from the parks, check out your Resort to create some Magical Experiences for your family.

So, now you know, the reason people decide to stay in a Disney Resort is not just the Disney Service, but the Magical Experience of the Resort itself. The theme and feel of the Resort is Special and you can enjoy it even more if you take time to explore your surroundings.
