Today’s question to my son, John whom helps me with Tuesday’s articles is the same as always:

Tell me something that everyone should see or do in Disney.

Mission Space, It’s a nifty ride.

Mission Space is an attraction in Epcot’s Future World. This is one of the more popular attractions in Epcot. According to the Disney Website it “is a 5.5-minute motion simulator ride for big kids, teens and adults that realistically mimics what an astronaut might experience during a space flight to Mars.”

What is so nifty about it?

The fact you can feel G-Forces, if you do the man, er the big time version.

Yes, he was going to say the manly version, but he stopped himself, smart kid that he is, not wanting to insult anyone.

What do you mean the “Big Time” version?

There is the quote unquote wimpy one, and the more intense simulator.

So, much for not wanting to insult anyone. There are two different ways to ride this simulator. The Orange side is the more intense side, the Green side takes out some of the ore intense parts of the ride.

Have you done both?

No, I have only done the intense one.

So, he has no idea, what the green side is like, he just assumes it is a lot tamer.

Besides the g-forces what should people know about it?

It isn’t good for tall people, it’s tough to go on it, and it is in a small area, so if you are claustrophobic, you would probably have problems. Like Mother.

The Tall comment comes from when we went down last summer with friends, ad his buddy’s dad whom is 6’ 9” or so, bailed out at the very end because he said it was going to be too tight of a fit for him. And the “Like Mother” comment is because his mom is claustrophobic. It makes me laugh when he calls her mother like that.

Tell me about the ride itself.

Well the g-forces are an interesting feeling. You almost get a weightless feeling, at least on the intense one. The other one just moves around, I guess, I’ve never been on it.

Do you get the feeling that the G-forces left an impression on him?

Besides the g-forces, tell me about it.

You kind of, I don’t want to spoil the fun, there is a story I guess, not really. You have to complete a task, and the guy from Forest Gump is in it. You know, Lt. Dan is it in. You have to complete a task.

The 15 year old mind at its best. At this point we had a five minute conversation about Forest Gump and Gary Sinise.

On the ride do you actually travel to space ?

Yes, you do, actually you travel to Mars, is it Mars? Yes, I don’t know, all the planets are the same to me; I don’t pay attention to them.

Can you tell he isn’t taking an astronomy course, in school? The ride itself is a simulated mission to Mars. Where each person on your team has a different job to do during the “mission”.

Is this like any other attraction you’ve ever been on?

Not really. There aren’t a lot of simulators in Walt Disney World are there? It could be like Rock n roller coaster, because of the quick take off and it’s in the dark.

There are some simulators in Disney World, at DisneyQuest, there is CyberSpace Mountain, where you can make your own ride then get in the simulator and ride it.

So, on your list of the top ten attractions in Disney where does this rank?

About 4 or so. There are a few I like better.

We’ll get to them at another time.

Is there anything else you would like to tell people about this attraction?

Get a fast Pass in the middle of the day. Or go later in the night, or else you could wait a while.

Thank you John, for your wonderful review of Mission Space.
