My 15 year old son John whom is my co-author for Tips from a Teenager Tuesday is trying out for the school tennis team. Not that he has a one track mind or anything (he is a 15 year old boy) but his answer to the question, “Tell me something you like about Disney World that everyone needs to know about.”

Was:

Play tennis or golf or any recreational sports.

One track mind~ teenage boy.

Here is the rest of our conversation, please enjoy.

Have you ever played tennis or golf in Walt Disney World?

Yes, I’ve played tennis and basketball, but not golf.

John doesn’t play golf at all. So, hearing him talk about not playing in Disney World (although it is supposed to be fantastic) is kind of humorous.

You played basketball?

Yes, at old Key West once.

Are there any other recreational sports they offer?

Yes, beach volleyball and shuffle board.

They offer beach volleyball at the different resorts that have beaches, and they offer shuffle board at the Old Key West Resort.

You also mentioned you played tennis once?

Yes.

What was that like?

Better weather than here.

Wasn’t it super hot that day?

Yeah, like I said better weather than here.

It was 47 degrees here today with a 15 mile an hour wind, and he had practice today, thus his answer.

How were the courts and all?

Really well taken care of; and there are lights so you can play at night.

Did you use your own racquet?

Yes, I took mine, but you can rent one there.

You don’t actually “rent” the racquets; you borrow them with your room key or a driver license.

Do you have any special memories from playing tennis in Disney World?

Yes, I beat you for the first time there and nearly cracked open my head.

John celebrating his win
(before bashing his head)

Four years ago, when John was 11, he was taking tennis lessons. He had become pretty good and wanted to play in Disney. We took his racquet and I borrowed one. We went and played one morning when we were there and it was a great game. We played for a few hours and the heat was unbearable. (Did you notice my excuses already?-heat, not my own racquet) After what seemed like a very long time (remember very hot) he did defeat me. As he did, he threw himself backwards and smashed his head on the court. I thought he had knocked himself out. We have it on tape of him going down hard.

So is there anything else you want to tell people about playing recreational sports in Disney?

Don’t worry about bringing your equipment, they will supply it. This way you can save room for more souvenirs.

Thank you, John.

You’re welcome dad.
