My family and I have decided, we’re spoiled and it is the Walt Disney Company’s fault. We now hold other vacations to the standards we are used to at Walt Disney World. A few years ago, we went on vacation in Virginia. We visited a historical area then went to an amusement park. This park has themed areas and rides. We were disappointed. Then a few weeks ago, our local sports team had a heritage night at the game we were at. Even something as small as Heritage night leaves you feeling a little ripped off, when you are used to the Disney Touches. That got me to thinking, what are the Disney Touches that give you Magical Experiences in Walt Disney World? So, I present for you today, the Unknown Magic of the Disney Touch.

At a meeting in 1987 Martin Sklar, Former Disney President and Disney Legend, introduced “Mickey’s 10 Commandments”. These 10 rules are the principals by which Disney Imagineers do their jobs. Some of these principals are used by Cast Members in the Walt Disney World Resort to help provide you with the Disney Touch. Things like Knowing your audience, Wearing your guests’ shoes, and Keeping it up (the importance of cleanliness and routine maintenance) are presented by the Cast Members to the visitors every day. We have talked with quite a few Cast members during our visits and you can tell that they enjoy going to the parks as guests. You also get the feeling when you are talking to them that they have looked at your information as they are helping you check in and then they can relate to whom you are and where you are coming from. I think this is also one of the reasons why they all have where they are from on their name tags, so that you make a comment or tell them that you are from there or have visited there, and they can talk to you to get to know you better.  And, if someone is talking to you about your hometown it can lead to a Magical Experience for both you and them. As for keeping it clean, I don’t think I have ever seen trash anywhere in any of the theme parks. But these are just some of the Disney Touches that help to make your vacation full of Magical Experiences.

Other Disney Touches are things like Landscaping. From inside the Magic Kingdom, you can’t see out to the real world. It is this way in most of the parks. They try not to let you see behind the Magic, and they are very good about using trees and berms, as well as the buildings to block your view from areas outside the
parks and even form other areas in the parks. This is a little touch that makes the Walt Disney World Resort even more Magical.

The Disney Touch is also in the way they take care of you. For example, if you stay at a Disney Resort you get complimentary Titleist and Cobra club rental when you purchase a full round of golf at any of the 4 Disney Championship Golf Courses. They also will help you get to and from the Golf Course by arranging a taxi to pick you up and get you back to your Resort. They also take care of any special needs that you have and if you have a medical condition that you need to keep medication refrigerated, they will provide you with one during your stay.

The Disney Touch that I think is the most wonderful is the fact that they always seem to have enough people working in all of the areas around Walt Disney World. Whether it is in the lobby of the Resort Hotels, or the Main Street Emporium, there is always someone to help you. This isn’t to say there won’t be a line, but I’ve never checked in to any of the Resorts and only noticed one or two people checking people in. Even in the evening and at night, there are always plenty of people around the front lobby to help you. For someone like me, that cannot stand waiting, this is a Disney Touch that I am very fond of and I think leads to Magical Experiences, because instead of being annoyed by waiting for someone to help me, I can get on with my vacation and enjoy my family time.

So, now you know, The Unknown Magic of the Disney Touch can create Magical Experiences for you and your family. Who knows, it might even make you more of a Disney Fan.
