Years ago, we stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort. It was a really neat place to stay, the buildings all looked like they were houses and shops in New Orleans, with the walkways between them making it seem like you were walking on the roads. The main building where the lobby is found is called the Mint. The Mint is also home to a food court, a shop (Jackson Square Gifts and Desires) and a really great Unknown Disney Magic, called Scat Cat’s.

Scat Cat’s is open from four until midnight daily. They don’t serve dinner here, but they do have some appetizers, things like Cajun wings, nachos and garlic cheese bites. They also have their own specialty drinks; The Bourbon Street Blues and Sassagoula Swamp Water. The Hurricane, which is also one of their house specialties, is served in Hurricane Lamp shaped glass. For your beer selections, they have Bud Light and then selections from Abita Brewing Company (from Abita Springs, Louisiana) on tap. They actually offer a few different Abita products, the Amber, Purple Haze and another selection depending on the season.

The walls of the lounge are decorated with memorabilia of Jazz artists and the décor is very simple, hardwood floors and wooden chairs, but it is a very relaxing place that is welcoming. The Lounge comes more alive from Wednesday through Saturday nights, because they have Elliot Dyson, play from 8:30-midnight. He plays New Orleans Style Piano, as well as Guitar, Saxophone, steel drums and he also sings. He performs favorites from Elvis and Ray Charles and the show is family friendly, so you can get the kids a non-alcoholic drink and grab yourself a beer and enjoy the show.

As the smaller resort lounges go, this one is pretty nice place to end up after a day in the parks and to just sit and talk with your family about what you did and what you are going to do the next day. It isn’t super comfy as some of the other places we’ve talked about are, there aren’t any big overstuffed chairs, but there are plenty of tables to sit at and enjoy your visit.

So, if you find yourself at the Port Orleans French Quarter, and you feel like an adult beverage, you can head over to Scat Cat’s and have yourself an Abita and if you’re there on the right night, you can enjoy the sounds of Elliot Dyson.
