One of the Places our
friends stopped.

This past summer friends of ours traveled to Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, from New Jersey. They took a nice leisurely drive down the Atlantic Coast. It took them about two weeks to finally get there and then another to get home. All the way down, they sent me pictures on my phone, and text messages telling me what they were doing. I was looking at one of the pictures this morning and I realized, I miss postcards. People don’t spend the 28 cents to write a message to their friends and family anymore. Email, Texting and picture messaging has killed the postcard. Places still sell postcards and people may still buy them, but they use them for scrapbooks or photo albums, they don’t send them. But if you go to Walt Disney World, they not only sell postcards and the stamps for you to send them, but they also have mailboxes throughout the resorts and theme parks for your convenience. For those of you like me that miss getting postcards, today I present, the Unknown Magic of sending the Disney Postcard.

In every Resort gift shop and many of the merchandise areas throughout the Theme Parks, Water Parks and Downtown Disney, Postcards are available. Some are over-sized, some are regular sized and some come in books of ten or more. They sell some that are attraction oriented, park oriented and character oriented. All of these postcards are wonderful keepsakes for you and your family and can help you to remember Magical Experiences had in the parks. Once you buy the postcards, you can get stamps for them at the Resort gift shops, at the Newsstand in the Magic Kingdom, and at the shops near the lockers in Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. You can also get stamps at guest services in Downtown Disney. But buying them and getting stamps only gets you half way there. Once you have your postcards, you need to send them.

There are mailboxes throughout the Walt Disney World Resort that you can drop your postcard in and it will be taken to the US Postal Service in Orlando. Each of the Resorts has a mailbox, somewhere near or in the lobby. But there are also mailboxes in each of the parks.

In the Magic Kingdom, there is a mailbox located under the Main Street Station for the Walt Disney World Railroad. This one is a turn of the century mailbox that is actually on loan from the US postal Service, there is another almost at the end of Main Street on one of the lamp posts.

The Animal Kingdom Mailbox

The One in the Disney Hollywood Studios is at Oscar’s Super Service just inside the main entrance to the Park. The Animal Kingdom Mailbox is in Garden Gate Gifts just inside the main entrance. It is a very neat shaped box that fits perfectly with the surroundings of the park.

The UK Mailbox

There are a couple in Epcot, one is located in the Entrance Plaza, one is near the Germany pavilion, in the World Showcase, and I especially like the one in the UK Pavilion.

So, now that you know, the next time you are in Walt Disney World, you can take the time to buy some postcards and then send them. Your younger kids will get a kick out of telling someone about their trip and what they are doing. They will especially like it when they get to choose the postcard, pick someone to send it to, write it out and then mail it on Main Street USA or any of the other places in the parks. It’s a lot of fun to do this as a family and a great way to take a short break during a long day and create a Magical Experience while doing it. Another great way to make a Magical Experience is to send a postcard home for your kids, without them knowing, talking about something fun that you all did that day and tell them you loved doing it with them. It is something that they will be sure to remember when they look back on this trip for years to come.
So, your next time in Disney, take the time to send a card.
