>In 1973, at the Contemporary Resort in Walt Disney World, President Nixon made his famous speech, “People have got to know whether or not their President is a crook. Well, I’m not a crook.” So, Richard Nixon isn’t what comes to mind when you think fun and games. But During the Early days of Disneyland, Richard Nixon and his family, who lived very close to the park visited quite often. And stories about his visits say he was always smiling and having fun with his children. This just goes to show you the Magic of Disney. And Walt Disney World is no different, there seems to be something, an Unknown Magic, let’s call it, that happens when you are in Walt Disney World. It makes most people act a little different**; A little Happier maybe, a little calmer maybe, or maybe even a Little Goofy? That’s the Unknown Magic we’re talking about here. The Magic that makes you do Goofy things that become Magical Experiences for you and your Family.
Lets’ start with the Goofiness of riding the attractions; a good example of being Goofy is when my family went to Disney World when I was a kid. I don’t remember my dad ever going on an amusement park ride or even going to an amusement park, before we went to Disney World that year, he rode every Attraction.
Every one! That was Goofy! I still remember him getting off Space Mountain and then prying his hands off the hand holds. His knuckles were white because he had been holding on so tight. A few years back, I had my own Goofy moment when I went on Tower of Terror (in my own defense I did it because my friends 5 year old told me it was a great ride-can you say Goofy). I don’t do heights well, so the beginning of the drop cycle when you come outside for the first time, shook me up, and then being on the outside seat watching the earth go up and down in front of me was just, well, Goofy!
Another place where people go a little Goofy in Disney World is at Character meals. It is so great to see Parents getting just as Goofy as their kids when a character come to their table. I’ve actually seen people jump up and run around the table to get into a picture with their child and Pooh. I really think it was just to be with Pooh, not really with their kid, but I’m sure that mother will tell you it was for both of them. At Chef
Mickey, They play music and get everyone singing and dancing and whooping and hollering, at different points throughout the meal. I have seen many a Magical Experience in the making when they have started this music and some dad starts dancing and moving around and his kids eyes get as big as a pizza. Then the smiles grow into laughs and the whole family is giggling for the next 10 minutes. What a great way to be Goofy!
Many Goofy moments just happen. One afternoon after a long hot day in the Magic Kingdom, we got on the Jungle Cruise boat and got completely Goofy. If you haven’t been on the Jungle Cruise before, or in a while, you may need to know that the attraction is a word game wrapped in a small boat ride. Almost
every 30 seconds of the 10 minute ride, there is a Pun made by the “skipper”, well, the Skipper started his puns and we just died. The puns are sooo bad, but we died laughing (I’m blaming it on being tired). The rest of the boat looked at us like we were crazy, but hey we didn’t care. If you can’t get Goofy in Disney, Where can you?
Another
Goofy moment that my son still laughs about happened one night as we were riding the tram out to the parking lot at Disney Hollywood Studios. As the Tram car, made its turn around to head down the other side of the road, my
Goofy son raises his arms like he’s on a roller coaster and goes “Whoooooo”. But hey I can’t say a thing, My
Goofy moment that trip came when I danced with
King Louie in the middle of Adventureland! You know what they say: like father like son! My Wife’s
Goofy moment from that trip came when she danced in the Hollywood Studios on the street scene from Singing in the Rain.
So, now you know, there is an Unknown Magic at the Walt Disney World Resort that makes you Goofy. Don’t fight it, enjoy it, let it happen and reap the benefits of a Magical Experience that will last for years and years.
**This Magic doesn’t seem to affect everyone. Some people don’t get the Magic of Walt Disney World, which we don’t get. I mean if you are in the Happiest Place on Earth, how can you not be Happy?
