Animal Kingdom is the biggest Walt Disney Company Theme Park worldwide. The Savannah in the park covers 110 acres. That is big enough to put the Magic Kingdom and all of its parking lots in and still have room left over (almost 30 acres). There are high trees throughout the park and loud

animals and it always seems hot there, proven by the saying, “It’s Animal Kingdom hot!” So, I can see the Animal Kingdom being a little scary for little kids. But there is a nice oasis for little ones in the middle of all of this hugeness, it’s an Unknown Magic that many people either don’t take the time to find, or just rush right past. It is the wonderful area in DinoLand USA, called the Boneyard.

The Boneyard is off to the one side of DinoLand opposite of Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama. It is kind of self enclosed, with openings leading out to walkways and to the other areas or DinoLand. It doesn’t seem like much as you walk by it, but it can be a fun and exciting place for younger guests. They get the chance to climb and dig and play, which is a great break for a little one from standing in line and walking here and there. And for parents, it is a neat place to watch your kids explore on their own a little.

The Boneyard offers a few different activities for your kids to explore. There is maze, with a climbing structure with wooden bridges and tube slides, which is like a huge jungle gym kind of thing. Then there is the sand pit. The sand pit is a great big sand box that the kids can dig in to find dinosaur bones. According to the Disney Website this is a “Shaded archeological dig site with special soft, no-stick sand where kids can excavate fossils from Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Rex and the Woolly Mammoth.” I think that is pretty cool

myself, but that isn’t all the Boneyard offers. There are other things for the kids to play on and with. There is a Jeep that they can climb all over and play in, there are a bunch of tunnels and they also have a really neat “xylobone” in the side of a hill. This “xylobone” is a bunch of bones that play music when the kids beat on them. A lot of fun is had with this instrument. Other sound making things in the Boneyard are found on the ground. The kids can hear a special noise when they step on the dinosaur footprints located around the area.

John liked the benches too!

There are also some things especially for parents here too. There are interesting archaeological facts and special dig site notes, which you may enjoy reading, but the best part of the Boneyard for parents is that they have a shaded area with seats at the dig site. This area has large fans. So that you can sit and cool off while watching the kids. Another fun thing, for everyone, but especially parents is the music they play in this area. The soundtrack includes things like; It’s the End of the World as We Know It, and Walk the Dinosaur by Was (not Was).

Like I said about the Honey I Shrunk the Kid Movie Set Adventure last week:

It really isn’t much, but it is a great place to enjoy as a family and a wonderful place for the little ones. You will definitely get some great pictures…

This is true of the Boneyard also. So, make sure you have your camera and take the kids by to enjoy diggin’ up bones, as well as other things.
